Hello weekend! Fortunately, mine starts today. After spending 2 hours pushing a lawn mower last night I've not exactly hit the floor running today. Sleeping in was first order of the day and it felt good. Not going to feel guilty. I've got nothing but studio time and art on my plans this weekend. I just finished up this collage in my art journal/sketch book which was really quite fun and refreshing to create.
A combination of magazine, paper, paint and doodles it was fun to not over think and play in my journal. Now laying on my studio table is a blank canvas. I'm about to get underway on that plus I have a bit of a project I'd like to start. That being my index card file. Don't know if you have one but I use it to keep website info., account info., anything I may need to recall and have readily available. Alphabetical to organize I believe it is calling out for some color, and clean up. So a playful weekend is on my agenda. Hope you are planning the same!

New Art, Ideas, and Chaos
New Art:
I've been putting finishing touches on art that has been waiting patiently for it's final attention. I've got more to go, which is a good thing, but all in time. Here is just a couple to share with you.
This little collage angel got her face today after laying for about a week waiting for her attention.
And then this started as a flower doddle on a scrap of canvas paper.
One thing led to another and it ended up much more than just a flower doodle!
Ideas:
This is an area in general that I have to get under control. Have you ever had so many things rattling around in your head that none of them get the attention they deserve? Well that's what I've got going on. Remember all that "organization" I showed you in a few posts back? Well the contents of all those journals and binders is going to go under some severe scrutiny. Prioritize and execute!
Chaos:
Running right along side of the pending ideas is my thinking I can do it all! Well newsbreak......I can not! You know the saying, "run your own race"? Well not only that but run it in your own time too! Eliminate the chaos of trying to keep up with what? The latest thing we have seen on Instagram, or someone's blog, or Facebook post? The nifty newest look or thing published in our favorite magazine?
I can look at half dozen websites or blogs and immediately think I should re-do mine because I liked the way another looked. Business cards the same way. AAhhh we have to love the internet and all things shared.....constantly....and unceasingly. Does anybody work anymore? I mean really?!

I'm soooo organized
So much so that I could possibly be unorganized. Just look at this on the table.
One binder and 3 journal notebooks. And not the kind you draw in either. Yes, total that to be 4 note taking, idea jotting, plan making books. Redundant? Why that might imply not being organized! So the weekend plan was to combine, clean up and well get my organization hmmm.....organized?
Well you can rest easy its 5:30 on Sunday and haven't even touched them. But I'm still organized right? This is a rabbit hole we shouldn't go down any farther.
But, before we do that take a look at this.
I'm thinking this would be a very nice replacement piece in my studio. I took a picture of this back at Christmas time when at World Market. I'm sure this would help studio organization as well! Maybe my husband can make me one just as soon as he gets done with my Shasta studio camper. (He's organized too by the way!)
So with the weekend slipping away ever too fast I salvaged this poor girl.
So generally not overly pleased still with her face after doing patchwork so this little gal may re-appear later down the road. She will have had an absence imposed by the seclusion necessary to recover from major face surgery again. Or she may just loose her head all together and start anew.
I better jot this to-do in one of my journals......................

| I had to repair her face after erasing a hole right through the paper. Gasp! That was a first. Obviously I couldn't get her face the way I wanted it. Here I am in the repair stage. |

Hello Spring
This is of course a favorite season of mine. The fresh smells of Spring and all things blooming. It really is a pretty time of year. So far though there has been very little sunshine and a lot of rain and dreariness.
So the umbrella has been close at hand and well used. The winter and now the wet start to spring has slowed progress down on the rolling studio project.
I had hoped to share some real progress pictures with you by this point. Today it's actually too muddy to get out to it! But, the interior has been gutted and a serious plan of action has been made and marked out on the walls. Yeah!
Stay dry and stop to smell those spring flowers!!

Winter = Studio time
Winter continues and it has been quite a week here in Texas!
Monday no work.
Tuesday I have to be driven in a 4 x 4 to get to work.
Wednesday & Thursday all good but cold.
Friday a repeat of Monday.
Saturday just more of the same.
One thing about art is it keeps you from being completely stir crazy. I have things to do!
Instead of giving second life to a canvas I gave a second life to this wood block. I painted over the previous art I had on it and then added the flowers. The flowers are out of paper and nail polish.
Yes, you read that right. I can't take credit for this method as I stumbled across this from Carla Sonheim awhile back and finally gave it a go. Here is a link to a little tutorial she shared.
Then I've been working on several new pieces for prints and other things. I've got several more posted on my website homepage. And now I'm going to continue work on a canvas I started Monday, the first winter day at home. If you want to see it check out my latest Instagram post.
So I have been busy! Winter isn't so bad after all. :)
Hope you are keeping warm.

Triumphant
Last weekend I was in the studio and grabbed up a new 12 x 16 canvas. Nothing particular in mind just started with paper and glue. I knew I was going to "try" to do two things. #1- Not use pink and work a fresh palette of colors from my normal. #2-do something different again from my normal.
And as you can see I pretty much failed on both of these accounts! In my defense the papers hold the pink color, not my paints that I used. Still guilty aren't I?! And well, these darn angels just seem to keep appearing . So, while my Angel says triumphant I think I may......be having a hard time with pre-ordaining an outcome. So another weekend is upon me and I have a bigger canvas still to lay out and begin on. Dare I try to accomplish the same two things again? Guess time will tell. It's such a fine line between just letting things flow and purposefully setting out on a course. Suppose if the end result is good what should it matter.

Friday Creative
A bit of creative time today in the studio. Had no plan for where this canvas was going to take me and just started with no rhyme or reason.
I did work really hard to keep pink out of it but as you see.... I failed. Such a surprise! Not!
Hoping to get a bit more time in this weekend with paint on my hands. Happy Friday!

New Art for a New Year
I'm not a resolution type of person at the beginning of a new year but I do feel like a "reset" button for fresh things takes place automatically. It's like a new starting line after having just left behind a crossed finish line. I've been working on some different methods and styles, a part of my reworking over bad art. A ongoing project of mine. And these old canvases that I have used to do new art on again are perfect for taking away the pressure of ruining besides bemoaning having just wasted good money on a canvas! It now has a chance and second life.
Now while this was NOT created on one of those re-do canvases I had practiced on those. I love doing the whimsical girls and flowers that will always be in my art but I also
am taping into this new side as well.
A mountain lover at heart with prior residence in the mountains I have lots to draw inspiration from. It's an automatic natural fit for me and surprising that it hasn't come through to my art before now.
I think this is going to be a good year!!

Friday Post...better late than never
Happy PPF to all. Yes, I'm waaaay late but I have a good excuse. Since vacation time seems to be eluding me this summer it was time for a mini vacation. Overnight somewhere....anywhere! Away from tv, dogs and puppies, responsibilities in general. So off to the casino it was. Had a really good time and what a wonderful change of pace. But home now and all those things I escaped from. Well, not a one is gone upon my return. All those delightful and not so delightful things that make up daily life are waiting with open arms. Sigh.
So, I'm really not a liar. I had promised to show my big project. But, I don't have a picture to show you. Correction. Have one but I can't get off my phone anyway. And quite frankly, too tired to get another device and get one taken now. Yawn..... Hopefully next post. I know, I know, thats what I keep saying but really I will get it done!
In meantime, here is what is on my studio table at the moment. Just finished her this afternoon, well evening now.
Thanks for stopping by and happy creating this weekend!

Collage play
I'm continuing to work on bringing new life to old pieces of my artwork. This is a 5 x 7 wood board piece that previously had something way different on it. (Yes, flower oriented of course!) The sad truth is that it just didn't make the grade as artwork should go so I papered, drew, painted, and even used a flower stamp I made to make it completely anew.
Hope you like her!

Re-Do #1
So I quickly picked up after my last post and started in on the pile of "bad" art that needed to be transformed. I grabbed a very bad canvas board and started in on the re-work.
I couldn't really undo the modeling paste which was primarily the "I Choose Joy" so I worked around it.
With more layers of colored paints the background became more complex and it took on life from there.
My scan of this doesn't really do it complete justice as the words are painted with a translucent pink paint as well as the legs of the bird in translucent green. Happy with this one so let's see what I make of the next one I grab from the "bad art" pile!
| She just hadn't turned out. I had modeling paste, paper, paint, ink, you name it. But it just wasn't very good at all. So she disappeared........ | |

The Holidays--
The Holidays are coming! The Holidays are coming! Oh my and a great big sigh! Everywhere I'm
looking these days it is Halloween or Christmas or both out for display. I'm just not ready to embrace this. Just being honest. But while I'm not ready to "go there" just yet I actually have made what I call Gifts from the Heart.
Just getting started with these as they are more time consuming than one would think. Paper, glue, and embellish. Not hard just takes time. And not just for Christmas either which makes them great.
Since my last post I also proceeded with making a few tags.

Studio time today!
I'm having a great Saturday! (Hope you are too.) It's great because so far I've slept in, checked in on some art blogs, and now in the studio for awhile this afternoon. Doesn't get much better than that.
Today I'm going to be working on doing something with this canvas I've got prepped and ready to take on it's real purpose.
In the meantime though, I've been seeing other artists share their entries submitted to the Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search http://lillarogers.com/global-talent-search/schedule/ The competition had a large amount of submissions and a selection down to a remaining 50 was made earlier this month.
Nope, not a finalist but it was great to have the opportunity to enter. If not familiar with the contest the submission had to be a playground theme. Here was my entry-
Thanks for noticing, yes of course there is a big flower on the playground! Ha ha! There is so much talent around that it can't be easy to pick a winner. I think just entering makes of us winners!!

Doing Hard Things
A couple of months ago I created a little canvas (below) to put in with a gift to a friend who was beginning chemo. It has the saying that my mother-in-law would say to my husband over the years whenever hard things in life came about. These words are repeated as needed still to this day whenever we need reminding.
Some have more or even harder things to overcome and deal with in our lives than others but we do all have hard things cross our paths.
Just remember....

Canvas board
Besides my ongoing collection of pens, which I added to again this weekend. I rarely walk into the craft store and out without a canvas. I just really like canvas. I have, or actually have had in my head that if I wasn't creating on a canvas that I wasn't really creating anything of value. Really? Well that is just silliness!! Don't know why I had thought that, or from where such a thought would come. I guess the great painters of history were on canvas. Why not aspire big! tee hee!!
Which brings me to canvas boards. I felt these were merely an inferior way to say you were working on canvas. And this may still be how I feel BUT, I have to say I am into my second pack of canvas boards and I'm really enjoying them! Especially for heavy mixed media use. It is so much easier to create backgrounds and add papers and paints to this canvas with a sturdy backing.
I've been creating a lot the past couple of weeks and enjoying it. I've even done some work on the ever so long promised Etsy shop. (No, still not open.) But baby steps are being made. I'll share more canvas boards in upcoming posts. In the meantime I have a brand new pack of pen markers to try out. Gotta go!

Save me...I'm melting!
Whoa, it just couldn't be much hotter here in Texas right now. For me it is that time of year when I find myself sprinting from one air conditioned environment to another. No lingering in the elements for me! Those of you in the mountains states.... well...shame on you is all I have to say :)
So last Friday I participated in Paint Party Friday. Not really being a social butterfly I found myself glad I had joined in. (Thank you Eva and Kristin for doing these.) There was a wonderful group of great and interesting artists participating. Think I may have to become a regular.
So with the heat I spent a bit of extra time during the week in the studio. I'm finishing this piece. Actually it may be done and just drying right now but, I can't make my mind up on that just yet.
This piece helped me re-group after working on a piece last weekend that has had to go into hiding in the "art protection program". It's true fate is in the balance. Enjoy a cool weekend!

Long Weekend
Happy 4th weekend...a bit late. What has been a long weekend has been a really quick weekend. Along the way have spent time with friends and family both. Enjoyed good food, conversation and a delightful ride through the pasture. Yes, pasture. And during this ride/ tour of a large haying acreage I realized that as an artist I now notice shades, and colors and get inspiration from surroundings differently than before my art journey began! Beauty has never been lost on me when it comes to being outdoors, but every once in awhile something you wouldn't expect to take as beauty is just that.
Given all the activities and usual duties of any weekend I haven't had my "day" in the studio as I had hoped. (I did add a portfolio to the home page. But requires flash.) Will probably rework that again sometime. No new art to share
but I did find this wooden canvas I had done awhile back.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend and God Bless America and it's founding!

Sunday in the studio
Today is such a beautiful day one can't help but look at things optimistically. I plan on getting outside but priorities right? Studio time first!
So this little canvas started as yellow, then ended up not going in the direction I "thought" I was going. It then became a lightly crackled blue. I was all over the place trying to find what I wanted. And if you don't know what that is it can take multiple layers! :)
But in the end it all came together.
As for other news I'm beginning the process of gearing up in the Studio for my "next steps" in all things art. I'm a thinker and a planner so it has to come together in my head and on paper before it takes on motion and success. So best get with it!
Have a wonderful week.
