Dreamin....

A peek inside my sketchbook will quickly reveal a head lost in the clouds....a bit out of touch with reality, (surely not a bad thing these days!), and lots of color.  A few swipes of leftover paint and a bit of a doodle and I'm dreaming!

The Mountains were calling...

Tomorrow starts me back to routine as vacation comes to a close. So sad.  How will I ever be able to put in a full 5 days of work?  I mean really?!  So to share a bit with you a vacation for me takes me back to the mountains.
It will always find me heading up a gorgeous road to some mountain top. This time and most times it is Glacier Park in Montana.
The colors were beginning to turn making for a great colorful background.  However, the day we went it was cooler and rainy.  But that didn't make a whole lot of difference to me.  Such peacefulness resides in the mountains....always.
And with art supplies in hand I managed some time to sketch and on the flight home created this little gal.
Home is a good place also but could do without the heat and humidity hanging around.  And as always, my heart resides in the mountains!

A Little something new

Today I whipped up a small batch of bookmarks
These are fun and easy to make plus will make great little add ins with gifts.  Or maybe even make them into gift tags.  After all (dare I say), you know what will be here before we know it!
Then I played around with a different color scheme.  Of course I can't get away from pink but was fun to play around in black and white.

So another weekend is coming to a close.  Hope you enjoyed yours and got creative!

Labor Day Weekend

Is the weekend signaling Fall?  Just wanting to make sure.  I know schools in, football is back, and Halloween decorations are now everywhere.  This all equates to Fall with the exception of the 100 degree weather.  Not cool!  Literally!  Plus my white pants are put away until next Spring, a fashion rule right?

What is going on then you ask?

Napping, but not for me.  These two have got this down.  And the other two are out of frame doing the same.  Given the heat they have told  me they want to be inside dogs. :)
Besides canvas work, which I have been doing more of lately, I took a wood panel and started playing around. Not quite sure what to call her and probably not finished with her either.
And finally I've been working on shop updates, a constant work in progress, and excited that Posters are now available.  I'll be listing more Posters soon.
So if you are kicking back and relaxing this long weekend drop by my shops and say hi!

Friday Post...better late than never

Happy PPF to all.  Yes, I'm waaaay late but I have a good excuse.  Since vacation time seems to be eluding me this summer it was time for a mini vacation.  Overnight somewhere....anywhere!  Away from tv, dogs and puppies, responsibilities in general.  So off to the casino it was.  Had a really good time and what a wonderful change of pace.  But home now and all those things I escaped from.  Well, not a one is gone upon my return.  All those delightful and not so delightful things that make up daily life are waiting with open arms.  Sigh.

So, I'm really not a liar.  I had promised to show my big project.  But, I don't have a picture to show you.  Correction.  Have one but I can't get off my phone anyway.  And quite frankly, too tired to get another device and get one taken now.  Yawn.....  Hopefully next post.  I know, I know, thats what I keep saying but really I will get it done!

In meantime, here is what is on my studio table at the moment.  Just finished her this afternoon, well evening now.

Thanks for stopping by and happy creating this weekend!

Happy Easter Weekend!

Today is Good Friday and besides being a wonderful time of the year it is Easter weekend.  Which most surely will spell rain before it is over.
To find something to post today I looked back into an older journal.  I found this that I had done towards the end of last year.  Good words to live by, so I'm sharing them with you today.
Have a lovely weekend and remember...Jesus has risen!!

Let's just play!

When I know I'm going to have a Friday off come Thursday night I'm busy in my mind making a list of everything that I need to do and get done.  My Friday free ticket often turns into just another day of tasks.  NOT cool!

So today's list is going to look like this.  I'm going to make a mess.  I'm going to paint, color, create, cut, paste, & color spritz my way into a big ole (artful) mess!  It's going to be fun and fantastic!

So give yourself permission also and  come out and play.  You know you'll be better for it!

A Rough start

Unfortunately this new year is getting off to a bit of a rough start.  Family members having some health issues and problems and that is just never a good thing.  While I started a painting last week I haven't had the chance to finish it yet so hope to post it next post.  I have however been in the art journal/sketch book so have a couple of things to share from there..

Both of these are sometimes easier said than done.  Which is why I probably needed reminding as I did them! :)   Until next time.....

2013 in the rear view

It's about gone. Finished. In the record books. What of my 2013 goals did I accomplish?  Well....most but not all when it comes to art.  A noticeable effort and some success was achieved with the 2013 list.
In review it had for me the following:
1) Create more....everyday I can. --  Did it!
2) Take time to submit to get published.-- Back onto the list for 2014 as I didn't even try.
3) Try new products and explore.--  Did it!  And of course back on the list for 2014 and thereafter!
4) Work on existing blog and create a website.-- Did it!  This too is ongoing.
5) Set up and sell on Etsy.--  Did set up my store but have not put effort into stocking or working it.
I know Etsy is "the place" but not sure I agree to begin with.  I'll re-access the storefront thing into
     this new year.
So all in all not too bad given the time I actually have to devote to my art.  I am pleased with the journal dash sketchbook dash mixed media art I've done this year in these books.
I've done 3 complete books, tags, and a bit more this past year.  I LOVE the mixed media books.
For me they create finished pieces, along with ideas to build upon or take further another time.
LoVe, LoVe, LoVe!
And so as we all head into 2014 I'm excited about ART!  Who couldn't be?  So I leave you with my last two entries recently done in my third book.

Wishing you the best in 2014!!

Merry Christmas!!

Wishing you and your dear ones a Very Merry Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
                                                           Christmas here we come!!

Always Thankful

So Fall has quickly turned to Winter here.  Wet, cold and ice in the forecast for tonight. Yuck and more yuck!  I've been down with a very nasty cold for a week.  The kind that you soldier through all week, accomplishing nothing more than the have to do's.  My art has suffered as well.  Just last night felt like picking up the art journal for first time.
There seems to be much going on around me ...affecting me.  Family in the hospital, Thanksgiving could be an iffy proposition, not to mention a daunting task for what will be last minute execution if it is a go.  Work of course.  And this is beginning to sound like a lot of whining!  But not really.
In all things be Thankful and I am always thankful!  Things work out, get done (or don't), and the sun rises the next day.  So if you are a bit harried already with holiday happenings or just life itself keep this in mind.

Finding Joy

Hi friends!  Today is a great lazy day for me.  I don't usually allow myself to just "not do" what needs to be done.  But today is a day of real relaxation.  This equates to "joy" to me.  It's not always easy to find you know?
As I've mentioned before I have friends battling cancer, friends battling other BIG issues, and now a friend of my sons who is rather another "son" to us looking at a long road of recovery from what could have been a deadly vehicle accident a week ago.  Joy is definitely not easy to find!
But I hope it is not eluding you and you are having a wonderful weekend.

Sept 22, 2013

At last I think Fall is in our air!  Taking it all in yesterday and today with windows open and a crispness not felt in a long time.  But, being Texas, I'm sure we will be back in the 90's tomorrow.
After having taken a couple of days to get my "art house" in order I am back with not enough time on my hands it seems.  Isn't that just the way life goes though?
These little beauties are going to end up on tags & cards possibly.  Still trying to decide.
My etsy shop is going to get things added to it and hopefully & that will be next weekends project!
Enjoying football season, and outdoor projects put off until cooler weather, all great things that come with fall too.  Hope you have had a great weekend!

Idle Hands

I mixed it up a bit this week. I grabbed a magazine and sat down in front of the tv. Not to read of course but to cut it up!  Unfortunately I had to lop this poor gals head off and with a bit of glue, paper and markers gave her a makeover.  (She is welcome!)
It was fun and put my idle hands to work.  Grabbed a few more images and will probably do a couple more "makeovers" before I'm through.  Silly is good right?!
This weekend I start my 2nd art journal of the year.  I've finished one completely and bought a new one to begin yesterday. Happiness!  Of course had to feed my addiction to pens and paint while I was purchasing so really excited to try the new ones out. Until next time....
Have a great week!

State of Mind

Well it has been a long week.  A very long week!  I've lost it to being under the weather.  A week of being sick and nothing to show for my lost week makes it even worse.  It all started Mothers Day, sore throat and then down hill from there.  Didn't even pick up a art supply or think I had the energy to take on such an endeavor. :(
So this that I did the week before was obviously a fore-telling of what I now need to keep in mind.

Just be happy!  Nothing I could do about it anyway.
So this week should be different.  Putting on my happy face!

p.s.  I uploaded the new blog header I had worked on AND
you now get to this blog either through my website at
www.twistofpink.com OR direct at www.twistofpink.net.
I guess not all has been lost for a week!

Overcoming adversity

This past week has been tough.  Not because my DishTV went on the fritz, not because my AC unit wouldn't cool if turned on, not because my internet service was not working properly, or my printer.
No, it was because others have suffered loss, trauma, injury, and disease.  The Boston marathon atrocity, the West, TX. plant explosion and subsequent leveling of an entire part of town, and cancer diagnoses and surgery of a friend.
My week merely had inconveniences but others have much to deal with, accept, and overcome.
Thursday night before bed, after not picking up any art supplies all week I found myself in my art journal.
Part therapy and part the need to create.  I doodled this:
The strength we have as individuals and even as a community is amazing.  Mix that with our faith and beliefs and those who have been directly affected with these recent, or any adversity, must know is that We Shall Overcome!  It's who we are.
So last night after a fantastic day of strolling through the Fort Worth Art Festival.  A truly fantastic venue.  I am reminded of how important the arts are to at least my person well being.  And how creative some many people are!
I ended a wonderful day out, resting in front of the now working TV.  It was a good day!

It started with a bird

Last weekend started with a box of art goodness being delivered by Fed Ex.  I was excited.  After all with the prior weeks "muse" being a-miss I was concerned with what I was going to do.  So with some new supplies on hand I sat.  Blank large canvas before me and a strong will to make  something happen!
It was Easter weekend and officially spring.   The birds.  They've been hard at it with their chirping and nest building.  And there it was...a moments inspiration.

So what began last weekend came to completion today.  I'm not unhappy with it but wasn't where I
was going with it in my head.  Somewhere a disconnect happened.  (Imagine that!?!)
It's an 18 x 24 canvas and I spent more time twirling it about to work on it than anything.  As for my next endeavor? With my inspiration now back in full swing, if I get time to work on my next project (which is something different for me), it could result in comical outcome or success. Guess you'll have to stay tuned.
